16.1 million people were screened for cancer in Türkiye
According to the statement made by the Ministry, the theme of the seventh day of Public Health Week was determined as "Early Diagnosis in Cancer Saves Lives".
To date, 16.1 million people in Türkiye have been screened for cancer, and those whose test results were found to be at risk were referred to higher-level healthcare institutions for further examination.
As a result of the examinations, 36 thousand people were diagnosed with cancer. More than 515 thousand screening services were provided with mobile cancer screening vehicles.
Early diagnosis and screening programs are implemented in KETEMs, where cancer screening and awareness services are carried out.
Training and consultancy services are also offered to increase cancer awareness in the society.
There are 486 KETEMs, including 428 KETEM units and 58 mobile KETEM screening vehicles, operating within the Healthy Life Centers in Türkiye.
In these centers, it is aimed to raise awareness in the society by providing not only screening but also cancer prevention training.
In Türkiye, free screening programs for breast cancer, colorectal cancer (large intestine cancer) and cervical cancer (cervical cancer) are carried out. The Ministry of Health offers these screenings free of charge through Cancer Early Diagnosis, Screening and Training Centers (KETEM), Healthy Life Centers (SHM), Community Health Centers (TSM), and Family Health Centers (ASM).
