In the statement made by DMM, it was stated that claims regarding the existence of forests were made in some media outlets and social media accounts.
"Allegations that Türkiye does not protect its forest assets and increases deforestation do not reflect the truth." In the statement, it was reported that the forest area has increased from 20.8 million hectares to 23.4 million hectares since 2002, thanks to the afforestation efforts carried out, and its share in the country's surface area has reached 30 percent.
According to the FRA 2025 Report of the United Nations (UN) Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), Türkiye is third in the world and first in Europe in afforestation efforts; The statement stated that it ranked fourth in the world and first in Europe among the countries that increased their forest assets the most, and the following information was included:
"Planned maintenance activities with public investment permits carried out within the framework of the Constitution and Law No. 6831 are carried out by fully protecting the ecosystem integrity and legal basis. Fires are fought uninterruptedly, supported by UAVs and smart systems, and biodiversity and our forest villagers are supported with different projects and studies. We are kindly requested not to rely on disinformation that aims to mislead the public."
