Global foreign direct investments increased in the first half of the year
The Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) announced foreign direct investment data for the first half of this year.
Accordingly, although direct foreign investments increased by 45 percent on an annual basis in the first quarter of this year, they decreased by 26 percent in the second quarter.
Despite the decline in the second quarter, based on the January-June period average, global direct foreign investments increased by 28 percent on an annual basis and reached 1 trillion 198 billion dollars.
Nearly two-thirds of OECD economies and many developing economies saw an increase in foreign direct investment in the first half of this year. This increase was largely due to the increase in stock investments and, to a lesser extent, the activity in intra-company loans.
Foreign direct investments to OECD countries increased by 67 percent in the first half of the year.
The USA led this growth, and investment inflows to the USA reached the highest level in the last 10 years, especially in the second quarter of 2026.
The OECD reported that the outlook for investments for the rest of the year remains uncertain, and that trade policies continue to change in this period when geopolitical tensions as well as new pressures on the costs of energy and other production inputs continue.
