He regained both his health and his voice with a lung transplant

Musician Ali Sevimli, who developed 'fibrosis' (tissue damage) and 'emphysema' (damage and expansion of the small air sacs in the lungs and loss of flexibility) in his lungs after Covid-19 in 2020, began to have difficulty breathing due to his disease, became dependent on oxygen and had difficulty in continuing his daily life.

Sevimli, who had to quit her job, regained her health with a cadaver transplant at Ankara Bilkent City Hospital in July, after being placed in the transplant queue 2 years ago. Sevimli, whose recovery process continues after the transplant, is counting the days to return to his profession as a musician.

Stating that he has very severe emphysema for his age, Sevimli said that doctors recommended lung transplantation as the only solution.

Sevimli explained that although she does sports and eats healthy in her daily life, she experiences the negative effects of smoking with the following words:

"They should definitely stay away from tobacco and tobacco products. I experienced this. I had difficulty climbing stairs, walking long distances, and carrying loads. I could not survive without oxygen. And this was a situation that reduced my quality of life incredibly."

Stating that she felt very well after the transplant, Sevimli said, "When I breathed after the surgery, the cool air entered me. I sang for 20 years. I had to quit after the discomfort. Hopefully, I will regain my health now. I will sing my songs as loudly as before." he said.

Sevimli stated that she prayed for the organ donor and his family and said, "I hope I will keep his organ alive. We are brothers and sisters now. He is dead, but I have his life. I will use his trust as far as it can go, until the end of my life. Donate your organs. Donate them so that your organs can live in the bodies of others."

Assistant Specialist in Charge of Ankara City Hospital Lung Transplant Center Assoc. Dr. Mehmet Furkan Şahin said that lung transplantation is one of the most difficult transplants among solid organ transplants.
