More than 10 thousand patients benefited from hyperbaric oxygen therapy in the first 6 months of the year.
In the statement made by the Ministry, it was stated that HBOT is a treatment method based on the principle of intermittent 100 percent oxygen breathing by being completely pressurized in specially designed pressure chambers.
In the statement, it was stated that the healing process is supported by increasing the amount of oxygen reaching the tissues, and an effective treatment approach is offered in the treatment of many diseases and injuries, and the following statements were made:
"Hyperbaric oxygen therapy is successfully applied in the treatment of many diseases and injuries, especially decompression sickness (decompression sickness), air and gas embolism (blocking of vessels by air or gas bubbles), carbon monoxide poisoning, gas gangrene, crush injuries, cases of delayed wound healing, thermal burns, sudden hearing loss and sudden vision loss."
In the statement, it was stated that hyperbaric oxygen therapy is also used in the treatment of diabetic wounds, surgical wounds, wounds due to arterial and venous circulation disorders, and pressure sores (decubitus ulcers). It was emphasized that the treatment planned according to the type of disease and the clinical condition of the patient makes a significant contribution to the healing process.
In the statement, it was stated that treatment services carried out by expert healthcare teams are provided to patients with appropriate indications within the framework of modern medical infrastructure and safe treatment standards.
"In 2025, hyperbaric oxygen therapy was applied to 17 thousand 983 patients in health facilities affiliated with the Ministry of Health, 1790 of which were for emergency and 16 thousand 193 for other indications. In the first six months of 2026, 10 thousand 93 patients benefited from hyperbaric oxygen therapy, 1311 for emergency and 8 thousand 782 for other indications. "During hyperbaric oxygen therapy, the amount of oxygen in the blood increases significantly as the patient breathes 100 percent oxygen under high pressure. Thus, tissues with inadequate oxygenation are supported with more oxygen, wound healing is accelerated and contributes to the fight against infection."
In the statement, it was stated that the treatment contributes to increasing the quality of life of patients by supporting reducing tissue damage, accelerating the healing process and reducing the risk of complications in suitable patients, and that the Ministry continues to strengthen access to this treatment and provide qualified healthcare services for patients with appropriate indications by expanding hyperbaric oxygen therapy services throughout the country.
