More than 179 thousand people applied to quit smoking in 8 months

Applications to smoking cessation clinics and the consultancy, treatment and follow-up services offered to those who want to quit smoking were discussed.

According to information obtained from the Ministry of Health, citizens who want to quit smoking are provided with support in polyclinics, family medicine units, mobile and online services. Consultancy and follow-up services are also provided through the ALO 171 Smoking Cessation Advisory Line.

While 81 thousand 616 patients applied to smoking cessation clinics in 2024, a total of 150 thousand 467 examinations were performed.

Last year, the number of applications increased by 112 percent, reaching 173 thousand 32, and a total of 223 thousand 993 examinations were performed.

In the 8 months of this year, the number of applications increased to 179 thousand 779 and the total number of examinations increased to 246 thousand 277. Thus, both the number of applications and examinations exceeded the numbers in the whole of last year.

In order to increase access to services, 1284 new smoking cessation clinics were opened across the country as of 2024, increasing the number from 467 to 1751.

With the amendment of the Regulation on Tobacco Addiction Treatment and Training Units published in the Official Gazette No. 33049 dated October 16, 2025, smoking cessation clinic services began to be offered in family medicine units.

As of November 1, 2025, online smoking cessation clinic services began to be provided via remote patient evaluation in 383 centers in 81 provinces.
