Prof. Dr. World Gold Medal award to Metin Önerci

Turkish Ear Nose and Throat Specialist Prof. Dr. Metin Önerci was presented with the "World Gold Medal" award at the World Ear, Nose and Throat Congress held in Istanbul on 9-13 September by the International Federation of Ear, Nose and Throat Societies for his contributions to world otolaryngology, services and international education activities.

In the organization held as the world's largest attended ear, nose and throat congress, Prof. Dr. It was unanimously decided to award Önerci by evaluating his scientific studies and international educational activities in the world of otolaryngology. Thus, this award was given to a faculty member for the first time in Türkiye.

Prof. Dr. Metin Önerci said that the International Federation of Ear, Nose and Throat Societies is an umbrella organization that brings together ear, nose and throat associations around the world.

Stating that the federation has approximately 100 thousand members and associations from 138 countries contribute to the organization, Önerci stated that the congress, held every four years, brings together ear, nose and throat specialists from different countries of the world.

Önerci stated that the award decision was made by an international committee without any representatives from Türkiye, and that the committee gave this award by evaluating scientific studies, services to world ear, nose and throat science and educational activities.

Expressing that it was a great honor for him to receive the award, Önerci said, "As a Turk, I am very honored that this year's medal was given to me. Otolaryngology in Türkiye is at a very high level. We have very valuable friends. All of our friends working in the scientific committees of the meeting are people with a respected place in the world. Türkiye has a very respected place in the world. I am proud of all of them."

Providing information about his scientific studies, Prof. Dr. Önerci said that he has over 200 articles published abroad and that these studies have made significant contributions to ear, nose and throat science around the world and are cited as references. Önerci stated that there are 8 international English books published abroad and reaching a wide readership, and that these are among the top 10 percent in the world in terms of demand.

Önerci also stated that he attended many conferences and courses as both a speaker and trainer, took part in surgical training activities and performed surgeries in different countries including the USA, Germany, France and England, and noted that they also organized training programs in Türkiye with the participation of colleagues from abroad.
