Transportation at COP31 will be provided by environmentally friendly buses
With the transportation planning prepared under the coordination of the Ministry of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change, it is aimed to reduce traffic congestion during the summit and for participants to reach the conference area safely and quickly.
During the 31st Conference of the Parties to the United Nations (UN) Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP31), comprehensive transportation planning was carried out to ensure that participants were transported by environmentally friendly buses, prevented traffic congestion and carried out logistics processes effectively.
630 buses, consisting of 71 electric, 233 natural gas and low-emission diesel vehicles, all produced in facilities in Türkiye, were prepared for this purpose. Environmentally friendly vehicles, procured from 25 municipalities and brought to Antalya, will provide transportation for the participants between hotels, the airport, the bus station, the city center and the conference area during the summit.
Ahmet Sami Kulaklıoğlu, Head of Support Services Department of the Ministry of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change, said that COP31 is one of the largest organizations in the world.
Stating that 196 countries are parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, Kulaklıoğlu stated that participants from many countries will attend the summit.
Explaining that the conference area will consist of two parts, the Blue Zone and the Green Zone, Kulaklıoğlu noted that they expect 50 thousand daily participants in the Blue Zone and over 100 thousand participants in the Green Zone.
Stating that they have prepared a special public transportation system for the participants to reach the conference area from their accommodation, airport, bus station and city center, Kulaklıoğlu said:
"COP is a climate summit. Therefore, we use low-emission buses in the transportation system, which are in line with the essence of the summit. We brought a total of 630 buses from 25 municipalities of our country to Antalya to serve during the COP. 71 of these buses are electric, 233 are natural gas-powered, and the others are low-emission diesel buses. All of these will serve during the COP." he said.
