103 years have passed in the historical journey to the Republic
Following the victory of the War of Independence, the night of October 28, 1923 was one of the turning points in history on the road to the Republic, which crowned the Turkish nation's struggle for independence with the establishment of a new state.
This decision, which was expressed at a dinner in Ankara Çankaya Mansion and shaped the future of Türkiye, was accepted in the Turkish Grand National Assembly (TBMM) the next day and officially determined the management style of the new Turkish state.
The road to the Republic was shaped during the years of the War of Independence, which started with Mustafa Kemal Atatürk's landing in Samsun on May 19, 1919.
During the Erzurum Congress, Atatürk stated to Mazhar Müfit Kansu that the form of government to be established after the victory would be the Republic. However, he did not express this idea for a while due to the conditions of the period.
With the opening of the Turkish Grand National Assembly on April 23, 1920, the foundations of the new administration based on national sovereignty were laid.
Following the international recognition of Türkiye's independence with the signing of the Lausanne Peace Treaty on July 24, 1923, the declaration of Ankara as the capital on October 13 was an important step in the political and administrative structuring of the new state.
However, the management style of the new state established after the victories on the battlefields had to be clearly determined and the issue of the presidency had to be resolved.
The political crisis that emerged with the resignation of the Executive Board of Deputies on October 27, 1923 and the failure to establish a new government brought a new regulation in the state administration to the agenda.
