62 detained in tender and fraud investigation at Bakırköy Municipality

The investigation initiated by the Bakırköy Chief Public Prosecutor's Office on the allegation that public damage occurred as a result of criminal irregularities in the tender files regarding the purchase of goods and services made by the Bakırköy Municipality continues.

The number of suspects for whom detention orders were issued within the scope of the investigation increased from 68 to 76. Yesterday, 4 more people were detained as part of the ongoing operations within the scope of the investigation in which 58 suspects were caught.

The suspects' proceedings with the gendarmerie continue.

An investigation was initiated by the Bakırköy Chief Public Prosecutor's Office upon notices that public damage occurred as a result of criminal irregularities in the tender files for the procurement of goods and services made by the Bakırköy Municipality, that money was unlawfully demanded from business owners who requested a business license, and that the license procedures of businesses that did not pay the requested amount were delayed.

Within the scope of the investigation carried out for the crimes of "tender rigging" and "extortion", 68 suspects, including deputy mayors, municipal council members and municipal staff and representatives of companies participating in the tenders, who were considered to have participated in the alleged crimes, as a result of the expert examination carried out on 42 open and negotiated tender files of different directorates of Bakırköy Municipality in 2024-2026, HTS records and MASAK reports, detection of communication and evaluation of monitoring measures with technical tools. A detention order was given.

Thereupon, in the operation organized by the Istanbul Provincial Gendarmerie Command KOM Branch Directorate, 58 suspects, including Bakırköy Municipality Deputy Mayors Nurcan Alan, Ali Rıza Akyüz, Cemalettin Özdemir, Arda Karadağ, Abdülhamit Pehlivan and 2 council members, were caught.
