A new era for children in social media
The new regulation that will change children's usage habits on social media platforms started today.
With the regulation, social media services will not be provided to children under the age of 15. For users in the 15-17 age group, there will be restrictions on features such as live broadcasting, infinite scrolling and personalized ads.
In the new era, the privacy of children's accounts will also come to the fore. The deadline for age verification on existing accounts will be March 31, 2027. The accounts of users determined to be under 15 will be closed.
One of the reasons for the regulation is that children may be affected differently than adults by the features offered by social media platforms during their development period.
The new regulation does not only cover children who will open an account on social media for the first time. Age verification will also be done for existing accounts. The deadline is March 31, 2027.
The accounts of users determined to be under 15 will be closed.
