Director of Communications Duran: We work with all public institutions in the fight against disinformation
Director of Communications Burhanettin Duran, in his speech at the Anadolu Agency (AA) News Awards Ceremony held at the Parliament Ceremony Hall under the auspices of the Speaker of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey, Numan Kurtulmuş, said that AA, which was established under the instructions of Gazi Mustafa Kemal during the War of Independence, took on the strategic responsibility of telling the rightful cause of the nation to the whole world in the first years.
Emphasizing that AA has become one of the most established institutions in Türkiye with its content and publication line that grows stronger day by day, Duran said that Anadolu Agency, which has reached a worldwide capacity today, has turned into a strong memory that both strongly announces the voice of truth and records what is happening in Türkiye and the world in recent years.
Duran evaluated: "I wholeheartedly believe that the struggle carried out 106 years ago to voice the just cause of our nation continues today with the responsibility of exalting the voice of truth against disinformation and manipulation."
Pointing out that television and print media were largely replaced by digital media in this period, Duran stated that even if the media changed, global actors still continued to see the media as a means of "standardizing the masses", and that television, as a mass communication tool, had a mission in this direction in the past.
Duran stated that in the past, the information presented on television was accepted as absolute truth by the public, and that conflicts of interest and ideological priorities were sometimes presented as the truth itself.
Burhanettin Duran explained that while a unipolar world was being established after the Cold War, the global media was a channel for legitimizing military interventions, and noted that in 1991, the Gulf War was broadcast live on CNN television in a biased and one-sided manner for days.
Stating that war and death have become people's entertainment with CNN's broadcasts, Duran said, "Weapons experts and the oil-soaked cormorant fiction appearing on the screens had already created consent in the minds of millions for the bombing of another people."
While the war was going on, the famous French thinker Jean Baudrillard appeared on television and said, "This is a commando ceremony." Reminding that he used the expression, Duran emphasized that the Gulf War was a show for those watching on the screen.
