Erdoğan: UN Security Council should be made more fair and inclusive

President Erdoğan included the following statements in his message:

I congratulate the 81st anniversary of the founding of the United Nations (UN) with my most heartfelt feelings on behalf of my country and nation.

I congratulate the UN staff working in our country and in different parts of the world, especially the Secretary General Mr. Antonio Guterres.

Founded after the two World Wars with the will to "protect future generations from the disaster of war", the UN has assumed important responsibility since the first day for the maintenance of international peace and security and the promotion of development and prosperity.

The global challenges we face today, such as wars, humanitarian disasters, climate change, hunger and poverty, racism, xenophobia and anti-Islamism, show that the importance of the UN's founding mission has not diminished, but has increased.

Today, humanity longs for a future in which the common will set forth in the UN Charter is implemented, wars end, and permanent peace prevails.

In order for the UN to properly fulfill these lofty responsibilities, it continues to be in the common interest of humanity for all countries to embrace the UN Charter more strongly and to support reforms to increase the effectiveness of the basic organs of the Organization.

At this point, it has become especially important to transform the UN Security Council into a more fair, inclusive structure that can meet the expectations of the international community.
