Istanbul Governor Gul: Financial aid to flood victims
Governor Gül inspected the areas affected by the flood and made important statements about the latest situation in the field.
Stating that rainfall is expected in the city today and tomorrow, but no major rainfall is foreseen, Governor Gül pointed out the risks of landslides and building safety due to the soil being saturated with water, and said, "The soil is saturated with rainfall, so we may have different concerns about landslides and distressed buildings in some places. If our citizens see a risk in their own buildings, we are ready to host all our citizens through our district governorships and 112. We scan the area, evacuate those we identify as risky. Our citizens should definitely not take risks." he said.
Stating that the water evacuation process in the region has been completed to a large extent and there is water left in very few points, Gül emphasized that the obstacles to the rehabilitation of the stream will be removed and said:
We made decisions with the participation of all our public institutions. One of these decisions was to eliminate the occupations in the stream bed and pave the way for stream rehabilitation. Today, we are starting the demolition of occupations such as the facilities and shops behind us. Our Minister of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change, Mr. Murat Kurum, gave the necessary instructions so that our citizens do not suffer and the area can provide service. Our esteemed President is following the process moment by moment. We are taking precautions without victimizing anyone and paving the way for stream rehabilitation. Life will return to normal in a very short time.
Referring to the financial support processes for disaster victims, Governor Gül announced that the main damage compensation will be paid at the beginning of the week after the urgent needs payments.
Sharing the information that 10 thousand liras were deposited into the accounts of more than 5 thousand disaster victims from the Ministry of Family and Social Services yesterday, Gül said, "This money is not compensation for the damages, but money for urgent needs during the disaster period. Our teams' work to determine the damage and loss continues uninterruptedly. We plan to complete these determinations by tomorrow noon at the latest. On Monday, we will deposit the money determined according to the damage assessments to the accounts of our fellow citizens." he said.
Stating that AFAD, Gendarmerie, Fire Brigade and all relevant institutions are working together in the field, Governor Gül said, "May God give strength to our state and nation." He made his wishes.
