MASAK called on the UN to freeze its assets

MASAK is stepping up its steps to announce the UNSC's asset freezing decisions.

The communiqué envisages the liable parties to take immediate measures regarding the persons, institutions and organizations subject to the asset freezing decisions taken by the UNSC regarding the prevention of the financing of terrorism and the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction.

In line with the communiqué, it was decided that information regarding the persons, institutions and organizations subject to the decisions in question will be published on the website with the announcement of MASAK. Thus, individuals and organizations that are obliged under the relevant legislation, especially banks, will be quickly informed of the asset freezing decisions taken by the UNSC.

This practice aims to prevent possible asset smuggling attempts to neutralize the UNSC's asset freezing decisions.

Following the announcements, obliged parties, especially banks, must immediately notify MASAK of the transactions intended to be carried out by the persons, institutions or organizations within the scope of the decisions in question and take the necessary measures to postpone these transactions.

The first implementation of the communiqué was made and information about the people on the UNSC sanctions lists was published on MASAK's website. Thus, the notification was put into practice.

In this context, it is important for obliged parties to regularly follow the MASAK Presidency's website in order not to miss current announcements and to take the necessary measures in a timely manner.
