MHP Chairman Bahçeli: Blue Homeland is the expression of the ideal of a strong Türkiye MH

Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) Chairman Devlet Bahçeli made a written statement regarding the approval of the Maritime Jurisdiction Areas Memorandum signed between Türkiye and Libya by the Libyan House of Representatives.

Bahçeli stated that the Blue Homeland doctrine is progressing on a safe, determined and legal basis in the direction of legitimate rights and interests arising from international law, and stated that the Memorandum on Limitation of Maritime Jurisdiction Areas, which was signed between Turkey and Libya in 2019 and came into force, reached a new stage by being approved by the Libyan House of Representatives on October 20, 2026.

Noting that this decision is an important development that strengthens the legal and political basis of the current agreement while also strengthening the basis of Turkey's rights and interests in the Eastern Mediterranean, Bahçeli stated that this development, beyond the strengthening of Turkey-Libya relations, is a step that can contribute to the peace and stability of the Mediterranean, the security of our heartland and cultural geography, and the security of Europe's energy supply lines.

Bahçeli stated that the way to understand today's Turkey is to remember yesterday's Turkey and made the following evaluations:

"From a Turkey that had to wage an overseas struggle to defend its homeland in Tripoli in 1911 and that had great difficulties in delivering soldiers and ammunition to Libya in the face of the superiority of the Italian navy in the Mediterranean, today a Turkey that has a presence in the Mediterranean with warships, defends its maritime jurisdictions on the basis of international law and resolutely protects its national rights both on the field and at the table has been achieved.

Türkiye, which paid a heavy price for not being able to reach the seas a century ago, has today made its presence in the seas an integral element of its national security, sovereign rights and regional interests. This historic march from Tripoli to the Blue Homeland is a clear indication of how Turkey's horizon, diplomatic power and national will have strengthened. From Turkey, which was looking for ways to reach Tripoli yesterday, to Turkey, which defends its own rights and law in the Mediterranean, determines its own route and directs its own future today...

Emphasizing that history and conditions have changed and Türkiye has become stronger, Bahçeli said, "The Blue Homeland is the expression of Turkey's historical heritage, its legitimate rights arising from international law and the ideal of a strong Turkey. Being strong in the seas, expanding the horizons of the state; protecting national rights and securing the future." he said.

Stating that Turkey's presence in the Mediterranean should be a guarantee of peace, stability and mutual benefits, Bahçeli said, "To those who have worked to bring the Blue Homeland doctrine to this day; On the Libyan side, he expressed his appreciation and gratitude to all officials in the legislative and executive authorities who signed the agreement in question for the peace, stability of the region and the peaceful future of humanity.
