President Erdogan: Hire 38,000 personnel in health care

President Erdoğan attended the Mass Groundbreaking and Mass Opening Ceremony of Istanbul University Hospital Çapa Campus.

Erdoğan, who started his speech here by greeting healthcare professionals and Istanbulites, expressed his great pleasure in opening the completed healthcare facilities and laying the foundations of new ones.

Stating that the new Internal Medicine Hospital and Esenyurt Hospital located in the Çapa and Esenyurt campuses of Istanbul University will be officially opened within the scope of the ceremony, President Erdoğan stated that the foundations of the Orthopedics, Traumatology and Surgery 2 Hospital and Deniz Abdal Mosque will be laid simultaneously.

We congratulate our Ministry of Health, our University and our contractor company; I would like to wholeheartedly thank our workers, civil servants and engineers who water these structures with their sweat and ideas. I wish great success to all our brothers and sisters who will work in our new hospitals, from our physicians and surgeons to our caregivers, from our nurses to our administrative staff. Finally, I pray to God for health and blessings for all our citizens who will receive treatment in these health facilities.

Right at the beginning of my words, I would like to share this with you: We are representatives of a very serious knowledge in terms of both health services and medical science, as well as a deep-rooted corporate history. Being a doctor has never been seen as an ordinary profession in our country. The physician is considered as a person who attains wisdom. While the darkest scenes of the Middle Ages were going on in Europe in the field of medicine, we have stood out in this field since the 13th century with bimarhanes, healing houses and many other institutions all over Anatolia.

Istanbul Faculty of Medicine is also entrusted to us by our ancestors. This faculty is one of the institutions entrusted to us by the World State Ottoman, called Memalik-i Mahruse-i Şahane. We see the first traces of medical education in Fatih Hospital, which was established by the order of Sultan Fatih and formed the core of this faculty. Approximately 4 centuries later, on March 14, 1827, Sultan II. Tophane-i Amire, built by Mahmud, and our first modern medical faculty came to life here. With the addition of Cerrahhane-i Amire, this well-established institution was first named Mekteb-i Tıbbiye-i Şahane and Darülfünun Faculty of Medicine in 1839, and later served as Istanbul Faculty of Medicine.
