Prison sentence for private doctor Demirkol in Denizolgun's suspicious death case

Arrested defendant Nurettin Demirkol, whose defense was taken at the hearing at Bakırköy 6th Criminal Court of First Instance, stated that taking his statement as a witness consisted of 4 stages and claimed that he signed the statement minutes without reading them.

Demirkol, who said that he was detained by the law enforcement officers and taken to the police station after a while, made the following statement:

"I examined the late minister two or three times. I only know that he had a blood pressure problem. I do not know whether he had a regular doctor. Since there were terms such as health center doctor, government doctor, municipality doctor, family doctor in those periods, I used the term private doctor to avoid misunderstanding. It was a mistake. I wanted to say that I am not a public servant. I am not the private doctor of the late minister."

Defendant Demirkol stated that when he looked at the 155 emergency call notification resolution minutes in the file, he understood that it was him from the conversations.

Demirkol stated that he said the phrase "an unexpected sudden death" in the conversation during the search, and that the police asked him "Is there a suspicious death issue?", and stated that it was out of the question to consider the death as suspicious and that he wanted to call the government physician, but since he could not reach him, he wished the police to direct him.

Demirkol argued that it was not possible for him to remember 10 years ago and stated that in his statement in 2016, the victim said that a small amount of bloody fluid was flowing in the form of a scratch on the right side of his mouth.

However, in his statement this year, Demirkol said, "I did not see any blood on his face or body," and argued that he might have interpreted the liquid coming from his stomach on the day of the incident as blood.

Demirkol explained that the street was overcrowded when he left the house after the incident and said, "I did not see Alihan Kuriş at the scene. Everything about the incident is clear, sir. I do not accept the accusation in any way. I want my release and acquittal. I am a person who is known to be honest in the society."
