Starlink impasse: Superiority or dependency?
The statements made by US President Donald Trump about Starlink last week are noteworthy as they show not only the Ukraine-Russia war but also the point at which technological addiction has reached.
As you may remember, President Trump made some suggestions to Ukraine for peace talks, and this was not welcomed in Kiev. In the following days, a serious decrease in the signal levels of the Starlink satellite service in Ukraine was observed.
Starlink service, provided by US billionaire Elon Musk's company, stands out by providing fast, uninterrupted and long-range communication even in environments with electronic warfare. After Ukraine started receiving this service, it repeatedly hit Russia's depths and well-protected strategic points.
After the decrease in signal level, Trump appeared in front of the cameras once again. He said that he would meet with Elon Musk to use Starlink in Ukraine as before. And the signal level once again became as strong as before.
We sought answers to this question with Defense Industry Analyst Arda Mevlütoğlu and also focused on Turkey's search for solutions in this field.
At this point, one of the most important issues that Mevlütoğlu emphasizes is the steps taken by Türkiye in recent periods... Pointing to the short-term breakthroughs in the field of space, Mevlütoğlu is of the opinion that the establishment of the Turkish Space Agency, as well as the moves of companies such as Delta-V, Fergani and ROKETSAN, are extremely valuable.
Emphasizing that Ankara has undertaken to build a serious capability in this field, Mevlütoğlu underlines that at the end of the day, such projects will strengthen our hand both in the military and civilian fields.
