Türkiye nominated Feridun Sinirlioğlu for UN Secretary General
Türkiye's Permanent Representative to the UN, Ambassador Ahmet Yıldız, stated in his statement to the AA correspondent that they submitted the relevant letter for the candidacy application to the Presidency of the UN General Assembly.
Ambassador Yıldız said, "Our President, Mr. Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, found it appropriate to nominate Ambassador Sinirlioğlu for the post of UN Secretary General, taking into account his qualifications, abilities, experience in the international arena and his confidence in himself." he said.
Yıldız stated that Türkiye nominated Sinirlioğlu to make the job of the UN easier, as there was no agreed upon candidate in the race for the UN Secretary General so far, and emphasized that they also respected the tradition that the candidate should come from the Latin America and Caribbean region in this election, which is why they waited until today.
Ambassador Yıldız added that Sinirlioğlu's CV and vision document were included in the candidacy application letter.
Senior Turkish diplomat Feridun Sinirlioğlu, who served as the Ministry of Foreign Affairs between August and November 2015 and as Türkiye's Permanent Representative to the UN between 2016 and 2023, currently serves as OSCE Secretary General.
