Union of Notaries' Safe Deposit System 'scam
According to information received from the Notaries Association of Türkiye, fraudsters use the names of notaries and ask for payment under the name of "Secure Deposit System" in order to gain the trust of the citizens they reach through fake websites and advertisements.
Fraudsters who introduce themselves as notary employees are trying to persuade citizens by saying that "if the deposit is not sent, the sale cannot be made or the opportunity will be missed."
Fraudsters mislead citizens to send money to their declared bank accounts by presenting the requested payment as a prerequisite for the "Secure Payment System".
However, there is no money transfer system called "secure deposit" or "guarantee deposit" in the legislation or notary systems.
The "Secure Payment System" used in second-hand vehicle sales covers the entire vehicle sales price, not the down payment.
Fulya Uysal Güler, President of the Notaries Association of Türkiye, said that fraudsters reach citizens via phone and SMS and demand money by pretending to be notaries.
Stating that some citizens believe this and send the money, Güler noted that sometimes this is done through fake websites.
Stating that the requested amount is not fixed and that some or all of the vehicle price can be requested, Güler said, "Neither notaries nor notary office employees call anyone and ask for money under any name." he said.
