Warning from DMM against age verification trap on social media

In the statement, malicious people used expressions aimed at creating panic such as "Your account will be closed" and "Verify your age immediately"; It was reported that it targets citizens' personal and financial data through fake SMS, e-mails and links.

Age verification will only be carried out with the "age verification token" created through the e-Government Gateway. In this system, no identification information will be transmitted to social media platforms; Platforms will only be able to see whether the user meets the required age limit. The application, which will start as of November 1, 2026, will initially be valid only for newly opened accounts. Verification of existing accounts will continue until March 31, 2027. For this reason, we were asked not to trust claims such as "If you do not verify, your account will be deleted today."

Age verification must only be done via turkiye.gov.tr ​​or the official e-Government mobile application. Before the process, the address bar of the browser must be checked; Misleading addresses that resemble the official site should not be entered.

Redirect links sent via SMS, e-mail or social media should never be clicked.

Extreme caution should be exercised against individuals and accounts that request fee, password or card information under the pretext of age verification by calling, texting or via fake websites.
