TRNC visit from Minister Fidan: Two-state solution is on the table
According to information obtained from Ministry of Foreign Affairs sources, within the scope of his TRNC visit, Fidan will be received by President Tufan Erhürman and Prime Minister Ünal Üstel, and will also meet with Minister of Foreign Affairs Tahsin Ertuğruloğlu.
Bilateral issues and recent developments in the Cyprus issue will be discussed during the meetings.
While Turkey wishes that Turkish Cypriots can live freely and prosperously as they wish on the Island, where they have equal rights, it continues its efforts to ensure the security, development and welfare of the Turkish Cypriot people, as the Homeland and Guarantor state.
Since 2022, President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has been calling on the international community to recognize the TRNC as soon as possible in his addresses within the scope of the United Nations (UN) General Assembly High Level Weeks.
In the statement made by the UN after the informal tripartite dinner between UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres and the two leaders on the Island in New York on October 15, 2024, it was confirmed that in the current environment, there is no common ground between the parties on the Island for the final solution of the Cyprus issue.
As of 2025, upon the suggestion of Guterres, a process has been initiated that focuses on identifying areas of cooperation that can benefit both people on the Island and aims to build trust through the establishment of a culture of cooperation.
In this context, the first extended format informal meeting, hosted by Guterres and attended by the leaders of the two sides on the Island and the Foreign Ministers of Turkey and Greece, was held in Geneva on 17-18 March 2025, where six cooperation topics that the parties could work on were identified.
At the second meeting with a similar format, held in New York on 16-17 July 2025, the developments made in the mentioned cooperation topics during the intervening period were reviewed.
