Falcon's migration journey: 14 countries, 6 thousand kilometers
The hawk named "Ender", which was tracked with a satellite transmitter from Iğdır, flew 6 thousand kilometers from Asia to Africa in about 5 months.
Bird research studies continue at the Aras Bird Research and Training Center, established in Iğdır by KuzeyDoğa Association with the permission of the General Directorate of Nature Conservation and National Parks.
In the center of Aras Bird Sanctuary, which is fed by the waters of the Aras River, birds are ringed and satellite transmitters are attached to some birds of prey migrating between continents.
As part of this year's spring work, KuzeyDoğa team attached a satellite transmitter to a steppe hawk (Buteo buteo vulpinus) that was caught in nets on May 14, named it "Ender" and released it into its natural environment on the same day.
Ender, who was followed, started his migration journey northwards, passing through Armenia, Azerbaijan and Georgia and settled in Makhachkala, Russia, on June 18.
Ender, who spent the summer here, started his migration journey towards the wintering area on September 20, with the arrival of autumn, and reached Ethiopia on October 9.
During the 148-day follow-up, Ender traveled 6 thousand 41 kilometers.
The hawk reached a speed of 102 kilometers per hour in its fastest flight and reached the highest altitude of 4 thousand 515 meters in its journey.
