Istanbul was the choice of those who moved cities for work

Reasons such as education, migration dependent on household members, change of marital status and better housing were the main reasons for urban changes. However, the number of people who migrated internally last year for reasons such as appointment periods of thousands of employees such as teachers, doctors and civil servants, job changes and finding new jobs approached 500 thousand.

According to the data, while 488 thousand 643 people changed cities last year due to "appointment/change of job" or "starting work/finding a job", the said value was calculated as 502 thousand 2 people in 2024.

Thus, one in every 5 people who migrated internally in 2025 moved to a different city for work reasons.

Additionally, of the approximately 490 thousand people who migrated for work last year, 315 thousand 87 were men and 173 thousand 556 were women.

The city where citizens migrate most for work was determined as Istanbul.

While the number of people who moved to the megacity for work last year was 72 thousand 141, the same value for the capital Ankara was 41 thousand 313. The number of people migrating to Izmir was recorded as 24 thousand 665.

Ardahan was the province that received the least number of immigrants for business reasons, with 819. Bayburt with 867 and Gümüşhane with 967 were listed as other provinces that received less than a thousand immigrants for business reasons.
