The lifeblood of the islands: Sea ambulances

Two ship crew and two medical personnel work in sea ambulances, which form an important part of emergency health services on the Islands.

Following the notification coming to the emergency call center, land ambulance teams are first directed to the scene, and if necessary, sea ambulance is activated.

Emergency care technician Melek Can explains the process by saying, "After our teams carry out all the necessary treatment interventions, they ask for support from the sea ambulance if needed for further examination and treatment."

The absence of a hospital serving 24 hours a day, 7 days a week on the islands requires sea ambulance teams to be trained and equipped to respond to many different emergencies.

In addition to heart attacks and head trauma, bicycle accidents and emergency birth cases due to the steep slopes of the islands are among the incidents that the teams respond to.

Increasing visitor density during the summer months increases the variety of cases encountered by the teams and the tempo of their operations.
