The mother's post forced Meta to change
A video shared on social media by Kalie Robins, who lives in Utah, USA, started a new discussion about children's digital privacy.
Robins shared a video of herself singing in the car with one of her daughters on Instagram. The video was later also published on Facebook.
When Robins looked at the video again, he noticed a question that Meta AI suggested at the bottom of the post:
When Robins clicked on the suggested question, Meta AI gave the name of her daughter in the video. Then, not only that, he also found the name of his other daughter.
Meta AI brought together different information about the two children that had been shared on social media over the years.
According to the screenshots shared by Robins, the system; extracted information about children's ages from family members' birthday posts and birth announcements. She also found photos and birth information shared on Facebook by the grandmother of one of the children after he was born.
Artificial intelligence made a prediction about which grade the children would be in, based on their ages. According to Robins, she also provided information about her daughters' interests, such as the books and beaches they like and the walking routes they take.
Then the system this time asks “Where does Kalie Robins live?” He suggested the question.
