Türkiye's 506th bird species was recorded in Manavgat
The meadowlark, which lives in North America and Alaska, was recorded with photographs and videos by bird watchers in the Ulualan region of Manavgat. The species became the 361st bird species recorded in Antalya.
The meadowlark, seen in the morning hours in the Ulualan region, where the Manavgat River flows into the Mediterranean, attracted the attention of bird watchers. After the species was recorded for the first time in Türkiye, observers from different regions of Türkiye, as well as Antalya, began to come to the region.
Mustafa Erturhan, Chairman of the Türkiye Bird Committee, stated in his statement that the meadowlark normally lives in North America and Alaska.
Stating that some individuals of the species can be seen in Europe by getting disoriented, Erturhan stated that the meadowlark was recorded for the first time in Türkiye.
Erturhan noted that the bird was first noticed by a Dutch observer, and members of the Antalya Bird Watching Society came to the region, observed and recorded the bird.
Emphasizing that Manavgat Wetland is an important region in terms of bird watching and natural life in the Western Mediterranean, Erturhan stated that the area offers rest and feeding opportunities to birds during migration.
Pointing out that rare bird species can be seen in important bird areas, Erturhan said that Manavgat attracts the attention of local and foreign bird watchers and nature lovers.
Pointing out the importance of preserving the natural richness of the region, Erturhan stated that the natural structure of the wetland should be maintained.
