Vital watch against invisible danger in the Black Sea
With the summer season, the density on the beaches on the Black Sea coast increases, and the lifeguard teams continue their shifts without interruption.
Teams check the beach and the sea throughout the day, warn citizens in risky areas, and intervene in cases of drowning within seconds.
Lifeguard Yiğitcan Aslan stated that the biggest motivation of their job is to touch human life and said, "It makes us happy to lend a hand to a person." he said.
However, Aslan said that some citizens did not pay attention to the warnings and stated that this endangered both their own lives and the lifeguards.
Karaburun Beach Lifeguard Chief Muhammet Can Çoban said that due to the variable structure of the Black Sea, warnings should be taken into consideration before entering the sea.
"The Black Sea does not keep track of day or hour." Çoban emphasized that swimming in the sea poses a great risk, especially on days when rip currents are seen.
Stating that people caught in a rip current should not panic, Çoban explained that it is vital to swim parallel to the shore instead of trying to swim towards the shore.
In addition to lifeguards, jet skis, rescue boats, ambulance, police and gendarmerie teams work in a coordinated manner at Karaburun Beach.
